Thanks for the extensive review! Great job.
Question: I’m looking to buy an eReader for my academic PDFs. I wanted to verify if the PDF is modified (fitted) to the screen, or do you have to scroll through, like left and right?

Chers mate, thx for review. Id like a wifi based browser and RSS feed in the device is that an option ? Judging from reviews Bookeens browsers are not very good.

@yuriPT Wow, nice catch. I paid mine €199 less than a year ago. :) Though of course there are many new models now… my only gripe with it is that if you set the “invert side buttons” function, it will be forgotten when you reboot the device even though it stays active in the menu, so you have to disable it and re-enable it. Bookeen knows about it, but it’s been almost a year since the last firmware update.

@jollino Thanks. I ended up buying one today. Yesterday I saw an AD saying the white version will be on sale today for 50€ at a store here in Portugal. I bought it and so far so good :)

@yuriPT The new colored model has a slightly more powerful battery than the white version I have, and it’s rated for about 8000 pages. Take something off due to the new firmware that allows it to go to sleep rather than to be turned off completely (so it’s faster to start up), so I’d say that you have at least 5000 pages worth of range with a single charge. It charges every time you connect it via USB, so In essence you won’t really have to worry about it at all. :)

@merlinowiz Thank you for your report. I am not affiliated with Bookeen, but I suggest you get in touch with your local distributor as it’s usually much easier to find an agreement than contacting the manufacturer. (You don’t call Samsung in South Korea if your TV stops working, do you? :) I follow Simplicissimus’ forum, ie. the Italian distributor, and as far as I know in some cases they replaced faulty units after inspecting them.

If you plan to buy one of the BOOKEN ebook readers be careful!
They do not complying with warranty.

Great review! Manny times better than a normal review :)
Iam thinkin’ off buyin one, for college so it can replace my book, butt got some questions about it…
Can you have multiple pages open off several books? (So i dont have to keep searchin for the right page)
Have you tried for yourself to make a pdf and read it on the Cybook? from collour to grey/ sice etc ?
And last butt not least, how is the sice working out for you?
    :)

@DLSS Unfortunately not, but it’s not the Opus’s fault. PDFs are page-oriented, ie. they are a collection of “pages” (with a given size, such as A4 or Letter), and text and graphics on them, as on a canvas. This makes it virtually impossible to reflow the content to fit smaller screens. The Opus however has a very handy “Crop margins” feature that zooms in to the actual content only. Setting the zoom to “fit to page width” it’s suprisingly good, especially in landscape mode. Hope this helps!
