    Great Dell Laptop, March 16, 2014

    This review is from: Dell – Inspiron 14Z-N411Z – Intel i5-2430M 2.40GHz – 4GB RAM – 500GB HDD – DVDRW – 14.0-inch – Notebook (Personal Computers)
    The Dell Inspiron 14z N411Z is a great 14″ laptop with a fast processor, plenty of memory, DVD drive, and lighted keyboard. It has three USB, a card reader, HDMI, and a network port. It also comes with a webcam, Bluetooth, and mini display port. The graphic display handles everything I do with it. The speakers are OK, but the sound output is great in headphones or through external speakers. The aluminum lid and keyboard surround give it a sturdy feel. The laptop does not weight too much at about 4.5 lbs. It has a larger than normal battery which has lasted me over six hours of use. The only negative is the power plug which comes out too easily. But, most laptops have the same issue. The round power plug shaft needs to be designed with a detent to help hold the plug in securely.

    My Favorite Notebook!!!, February 17, 2015

    I am a certified computer tech, and own and operate my own small computer service company. I specialize in notebook / laptop service and repair, and this Dell Inspiron 14Z-N411Z is my very favorite laptop! And I can tell you that over the past 30 years I have owned and worked on hundreds, if not thousands of notebooks! This one has plenty of power, full-sized keyboard, all the features and ports, nice compact 14″ screen. It’s small enough to carry on a regular basis and yet still has a CD/DVD drive for programs and movies, etc. Don’t know why some other reviewers have a problem with giving this unit a full 5 stars, but that’s fine by me. Leaves more available for folks like me who recognize its value. Mik ;~)}

    Bought this Dec 2011 from Dell for about $550 new during a sale. Battery slowly started holding less and less of a charge until it died in 11 months. Thankfully it died right before the warranty expired, so I got a new one for free (which is still working). After 2 1/2 years of use, something happened where the screen would look all staticy like an old CRT color television with bad signal from the 1980s. A reboot or closing the lid and opening it again fixes the problem, so I’m assuming there is a connection problem with the LCD monitor rather than a problem with the graphics card itself. It’s out of warranty so I could take it apart and take a look inside, but I mainly use it to play media on my TV using HDMI. All of the ports are hidden (or “protected”) under lids with rubbery plastic hinges. I imagine this is to offer more longetivity / protection, but in practical use it’s more of a hindrance than it is useful. The lids have a tendency to snap back so they exert some pressure on whatever cables are plugged in.

    Overall, it’s a serviceable laptop, and for the price I can’t really complain. It’s a Dell. You get what you pay for.
