a54cf the dragons 3 300x225 The Dragons HD ReviewIt’s hard to resist a game that has dragons, especially when they are so adorable. The Dragons HD looks like it’s just another physics puzzler at first glance, but it’s actually packed with mini games that are designed to test players’ hand eye coordination and reflexes.

There are four interactive worlds: Cave, Hills, Forest and Town. Each world features a handful of levels, some more challenging than others. No level is exactly the same as each one has a main objective that needs completed as quickly as possible. Instead of stars, gamers earn up to three flames depending on their best time. At the end of a level, the game shows players what they need to earn one, two or three flames and it displays their current and best times.

Earning three flames on many of the levels isn’t exactly easy. I found myself tapping until my finger hurt, but I still couldn’t get all three. Players are free to go back and replay any level, but prepared to fail many times unless you have secret ninja skills.

a54cf the dragons 6 300x225 The Dragons HD ReviewWhat’s disappointing is that two of the worlds are plastered with Coming Soon, but there’s no release date to let gamers know when the next ones are available. For now, there are only 20 mini games to complete. I finished them in about 15 minutes, although I didn’t earn three flames on them all. Hopefully more levels are added in the future, as players will grow bored quickly. Another disappointment is that there aren’t any Game Center leaderboards or achievements for players to compete with friends.

Aside from the lack of initial content, The Dragons HD is still fun to play. The graphics and animations are well-designed and look great on retina displays, and the available mini games are addicting and challenging. The game is sure to raise the adrenaline level and heart rate for those looking to get a quick thrill. The adorable dragons and casual game play make it ideal for gamers of all ages, but be prepared to get a finger workout trying to earn all the flames.
